Public Action Law Society P.A.L.S. (flyer) The Public Action Law Society (PALS) at the University of Memphis is a student-led organization that seeks to promote volunteerism, community service, and a pattern of activities that will instill in participants a desire to continue in pro bono work after becoming attorneys. PRO BONOService Project PALS is in the process of developing a student-run and student-led pro bono service project that will allow students to participate in public interest cases under the direct supervision of attorneys in the community. The vision for this project is that students will be able to volunteer in a way that is conducive to their schedule, while getting practical legal experience. Coordination of Volunteers PALS coordinates volunteers for a number of different organizations. Volunteers are connected to community service organizations that match the students’ interests and abilities. Organizations Providing Opportunities Dean’s Pro Bono Service Awards In order to recognize the work of law students in community service organization, PALS created the Dean’s Pro Bono Service Awards. The Awards are earned by students who have contributed more than 30 hours to a community service organization in a year. Rodney K. Smith Award The RODNEY K. SMITH award is the highlight of these service awards and is awarded to the law student who has donated the most time in the past year. Faculty Advisor: Prof. Chris Zawisza
