2006 National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition Results

This past week, a three student team from the law school (Carly Gallagher, Marci Harris and Hayden Lawyer) competed at the National Environmental Law Moot Court Competition at Pace Law School in White Plains, New York.  The team did quite well, advancing to the Quarterfinal Round in which it competed against the University of Florida and the University of Hawaii.  The University of Florida advanced from the round in what was a well argued round by all three teams.  72 teams from law schools around the country competed this year.  Each team wrote a federal court of appeals brief in the fall semester and then argued three preliminary rounds last week at Pace.  The brief score was 40% of the overall preliminary score and each preliminary round was worth 20%.  The top 27 teams with the highest overall preliminary scores advance to the Quarterfinal Round.  The Memphis team competed against Willamette, Ohio State, Houston, Georgetown, Maryland, and Washington in the three preliminary rounds.  Marci Harris was named Best Oralist in both the first and second of the preliminary rounds in which the team competed. 2/27/06
