The goals of the International Law Society are to explore and promote information concerning the practice of International Law.  In furtherance of these goals, the International Law Society organizes or participates in several annual activities, both as an independent local organization and through it's affiliation with the International Law Students Association.  Members of ILSA have found that working together under the scope of a larger organization has allowed them to enhance the quality and quantity of their local programming and to tap the larger network of global resources. The primary project of ILSA each year, however, is the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.

Each fall the International Law Society co-sponsors a moot court team to compete in the Jessup Competition.  This competition attracts approximately 1500 students from almost 400 schools in more than 40 countries annually.  It is an oral and writing competition in which students are presented with a hypothetical case to prepare ad argue as before the International Court of Justice.  Winners from the Regional and National Competitions advance to the International Rounds in Washington, D.C.

The International Law Society also hosts International Law Forums and Lecture Series with speakers who are invited to address a broad range of topics dealing with the practice of International Law.

In the summer of 1996, the International Law Society helped to organize the first study abroad program to be offered by the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law with 15 students participating.   The International Law Society will work to promote this opportunity as long as there is sufficient interest.
