Experience: Private practice of law in Memphis, Tennessee, 1976-78; joined The University of Memphis School of Law faculty in 1978.

Achievements/Publications: Reporter for the Civil Justice Reform Act Advisory Group for the United States District Court for the Western District of Tennessee;  Reporter for the TBA Task Force on the Judiciary; member of Tennessee Special Legislative Committee to Study Article 2A of the Uniform Commercial Code; member of the TBA Family Law Code Revision Commission; founding member and President of the Tennessee Supreme Court Historical Society; NITA faculty; ABA Schwab writing contest national judge; Tennessee Bar Foundation Fellow; elected member of the American Law Institute; Tennessee Juvenile Justice Reform Commission, advisory committee; master in the Leo Bearman, Sr. American Inn of Court; Memphis Bar Association, Sam A. Myar, Jr. Award recipient; author of Tort Defenses and Immunities in Tennessee, (1981, 1987 supp.); Richards on Tennessee Family Law (1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 supp.); Property Division in Divorce Proceedings: A Fifty State Guide (with Gregory Wolf, expected publication, spring, 2003); and numerous law review articles focusing primarily on child custody issues.
