Clinical Legal Education

THE CLINICAL FACULTY....

Donna S. Harkness, Elder Law Clinic Director and Associate Professor of Clinical Law, Certified Elder Law Attorney, National Elder Law Foundation, and Tennessee Elder Law Specialist. Professor Harkness graduated from Vanderbilt Law School in 1980, and is licensed to practice in Tennessee and Florida. She has over 20 years of legal experience both in the state and federal courts. Prior to coming to the U of M, Ms. Harkness served as a staff attorney for Housing Opportunities Corporation in Memphis, as District Legal Counsel for the Florida Department of Housing and Rehabilitative Services in Pensacola, Florida, and as a staff attorney with Legal Services of Middle Tennessee in Nashville.

Constance L. Ross, Civil Advocacy Clinic Director and Assistant Professor of Clinical Law, graduated from the University of Tennessee School of Law in 1977. She has over 25 years of litigation experience in state and federal courts and has taught this Clinic since its inception.  Before coming to the U of M, Professor Ross practiced law with Memphis Area Legal Services, representing clients in family, consumer, landlord/tenant and other housing matters.  When not directing the Civil Advocacy Clinic, Professor Ross teaches the Domestic Violence Clinic.

Christina A. Zawisza, Child Advocacy Clinic Director and Associate Professor of Clinical Law, has been practicing in the state and federal courts for over 25 years and is a nationally recognized children's law specialist. She graduated from the University of  Virginia School of Law in 1977 and also holds a Master's Degree in Public Policy from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to coming to the U of M, Professor Zawisza directed the Children First Project at Nova Southeastern University's Law Center in Fort Lauderdale. She is licensed to practice in Florida, Tennessee and New York.
