SUBSTANTIVE COVERAGE AND OBJECTIVES OF COURSE:

Federal Copyright Act: public performance right; rights in sound recordings; preemption of state law; transfers of rights and termination; recent developments. Agreements: performing rights societies (membership/licenses); lawyer retention; publishing; personal management; sound recording; movie production; t.v. and radio production, etc. To begin to develop in students an understanding of and the ability to represent composers or artists or other employers involved in music and other entertainment industries.

RELATION TO OTHER OFFERINGS IN CURRICULUM:

An extension in part of Copyright. Complementary to Unfair Trade Practices. Antitrust Law provides important insights into the economics of the law, Labor Law does as well.

Advanced: Property; Contracts; Torts; Constitutional Law; Remedies; and Analytical Skills course.
