SUBSTANTIVE COVERAGE AND OBJECTIVES OF COURSE:

Coverage includes intestate succession, wills, and trusts. Objectives include mastery of fundamental principles under the Uniform Probate Code, the Tennessee Code, and case law.

 

RELATION TO OTHER OFFERINGS IN CURRICULUM:

The course builds upon principles learned and skills acquired in Property I and II and provides a necessary groundwork for courses in Estate Planning and Gift and Estate Tax. The course also covers important property questions relating to Family Law.

 

RELATION TO BAR EXAM SUBJECTS:

Decedents' Estates is a principal testing area on state bar examinations. Essay questions relating to wills and intestate succession are frequently included on the Tennessee Bar Examination.
